Distinguished Service Award

Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur recognizes the professional achievements of contribution of its alumni through the Distinguish Service Award each year on the Annual Convocation Day. Several notable alumni have received this prestigious Award. The Institute is interested to receive fresh nominations in respect of individual alumnus/ alumna for consideration for the award in 2016. Nominations received over the past two years shall also be considered for the award in this year.

The nomination form filled in along with supporting documents and all relevant contact details, as appropriate, should be submitted to the Office of Dean, AA&IR by 9th May 2016, Monday. Nominations submitted in 2014 and 2015 may also be updated. Electronic copies of the nomination papers should also be submitted by email to [email protected]. Nominations received over the past two years shall also be considered for this year.

 

Nominations in prescribed format may be submitted by past Distinguished Service Awardees, Senate Members, Life Fellows, Alumni Foundations / Associations (after internal scrutiny). Nominations must reach the Dean of Alumni Affairs & International Relations latest by 9th May 2016, Monday. Nominations received can be carried forward for 2 years with provisions for update by the concerned alumnus/alumna.

Eligibility
An alumnus/alumna, who is an employee of IIT Kharagpur, shall not be eligible for the award during his/her service period except when he/she has accomplished with exceptional achievement of highest order recognized widely.  

 

Criteria
The following aspects will be considered among possible others while assessing the contributions:
•    Service to the Alumni Chapters/Foundations.
•    Contributions and Roles in activities involving alumni and other stakeholders of the Institute
•    Resource generation / Contribution for the Institute / Alum Organization
•    Contribution to the Institute in Academics and Research
•    Contribution to student/ faculty life
•    Recognitions received within the Alumni fraternity. 
 

Process for Selection
Nominations shall be short listed by a Screening Committee (SC) chaired by the Dean (AA&IR) to be constituted with the approval of the Director. Short listed nominations shall be peer reviewed. The SC will make a panel of such reviewers for the purpose. Based on the recommendations of the peer reviewers, the SC will make a panel for consideration of the Standing Committee. The Standing Committee will normally comprise Director as the Chairman, Deputy Director, Dean (AA&IR), Dean (F&P) as members and 2 (two) External Experts, following the guidelines of selection in such cases and considering recommendations of the peer reviewers making final recommendations to the Senate and the Board of Governors.
